COURSE OVERVIEW

This Foundation Degree in Tourism and Events Management will
provide you with an engaging and effective learning experience to
develop your understanding of the Tourism and Events sector, including
contemporary issues such as Governmental strategies, managerial
approaches, skills shortages, and equality and diversity.

Students
achieving the FdA in Tourism and Event Management will be equipped
with knowledge, skills, and behaviours to make a contribution to these
sectors whilst preparing graduates to progress to Level 6 study either
at OBC in collaboration with its partners or another HEl providing
subject related top-up degrees, should they choose to do so.

Provide you with an academic and vocationally oriented curriculum that establishes a firm understanding and knowledge of the sectors.

Provide a flexible and supportive learning environment and a variety of learning tasks and approaches to enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the sectors.

Provide a framework where employers can participate in the development of the curriculum in order that the programme remains current and fit for purpose.

Provide a varied range of academic and practical teaching, learning and assessment strategies related to the Tourism, and Event sector. Provide you with sector specific employer links including guest speakers, sectors related visits and placement opportunities.

Facilitate the development of individual values and personal skills that will enable you to continue to develop in pursuing your career and/or academic and personal aspirations.

Academic Development 1	20	1	Mandatory	Introduce students to a variety of skills that are intended to support their transition into Higher education and enable students to adapt to what is expected of them as an undergraduate student.
Work Related Learning 1	20	1	Mandatory	Develop students understanding within the sector and to identify what employers require from graduates and the career paths that are available.
People Management	20	1	Mandatory	Enable students to understand and apply principles of human resource management. The module will explore the tools and techniques used in human resource management.
Understanding the Tourism & Events sectors	20	1	Mandatory	Provide students with an overview of the Tourism and Event sectors and be able to outline the jobs within the sector. This module also looks at current affairs within the sectors and the impact these forces have on the industries.
Digital Sales & Marketing	20	1	Mandatory	Familiarise students with the ever-enhancing digital world and the leading advances taking place in the Digital Sales and Marketing sector. The module will provide students with practical skills through a live brief from an organisation.
Business Finance	20	1	Mandatory	Provide the students with the opportunity to explore the sources of funding available and the range of income streams that organisations should source. It will also allow the student to understand, calculate and produce a series of financial statements that organisations are required to produce annually.

Academic Development 2	20	2	Mandatory	Raise the higher education skills of the students to enable them to undertake some analysis; compare research methods; develop critical thinking skills and evaluate the transferable skills they have developed whilst studying the Tourism or Event sector.
Work Related Learning 2	20	2	Mandatory	Enable students to engage in a meaningful sector work placement, thus developing their personal and professional skills, through engaging in practical tasks and activities within an appropriate work-based setting. The minimum work experience hours required for this module are 40 hours.
Retail & Tour Operations	20	2	Mandatory	Provide students with the understanding of Retail and Tour 20 2 Mandatory Operations management. This will include the stages of creating holidays, advertising and promotion & distribution methods
Global Tourism & Events	20	2	Mandatory	Provide the students with the opportunity to explore the growth and 20 2 Mandatory history of the Travel and Event sectors. Students will analyse one destination and critically evaluate the impact of this growth.
Live Event for the Tourism & Event sector	20	2	Mandatory	Develop the students’ competence in group work and oral Tourism & Event 20 2 Mandatory presentation and to equip students with the knowledge and skills sector necessary to research, plan, implement and evaluate a live Event.
Entrepreneurship Live	20	2	Mandatory	Student to research a topic of their choice within their chosen sector and present their findings in the form of a group presentation with 20 2 Mandatory accompanying business documentation. This major piece of work could coincide with a work-placement opportunity or through any such part-time employment engagement.
